Our Ecstatic Days

In the waning summer days, a lake appears almost overnight in the middle of Los Angeles. Out of fear and love, a young single mother commits a desperate act: convinced that the lake means to take her small son, she determines to stop it, and becomes the lake's Dominatrix-Oracle, "the Queen of the Zed Night." On the forbidden landscape of a defiant heart, parallel lives spin faster toward the possibility they'll unite once again in an unknown century to come.

"As unique and vital and pure a voice as American fiction has produced. Our Ecstatic Days is a remarkable consolidation of Erickson's strengths. . . more like music, like a lucid dream — like a masterpiece."
Jonathan Lethem

"Huge scope. . . invention, feeling and humor, with love as an abyss of motion, terror, ecstasy. The richest of Erickson's visions to date."
Joseph McElroy, The Believer

"Erickson and his latest novel are clearly sui generis. Our Ecstatic Days is an extravagant, outsized accomplishment, in which chaos almost — but never quite — wins, in which primal human connections keep us going in the face of catastrophic loss. A baroque, visionary novel rooted in fundamental truths."
Washington Post Book World

"Audacious, ravishing, Our Ecstatic Days steadily inscribes wonders. As devastating and touching as only our boldest, most enduring novels can be."
Robert Polito, Bomb

"One of the year's best novels. Our Ecstatic Days continues Erickson's tradition of fearlessly racing across bridges of form and content that others thought were still being constructed. Dive into its lake of longing and lyricism."
Uncut

"Our Ecstatic Days may be a great one."
Bookforum

"There's no one in the world writing like Steve Erickson."
